The Investigation of the Assassination of
Martin Luther King Jr.

by Special Investigator (under cover) Gary Revel

The fact is, James Earl Ray did not shoot and kill Martin Luther King Jr.

Excerpts from the US Government book identifying Gary as the Special Investigator, investigating in association with the House Select Committee on Assassinations
v. 9. Interviews with James Earl Ray (March 22, March 28, and April 14, 1977) --
v. 10. Interviews with James Earl Ray (April 29, May 3, and September 29, 1977) --
v. 11. Interviews with James Earl Ray (November 14 and December 2, 1977) --

Witness, Lloyd Jowers', statements agreed with much of what I had found in 1977 and I found nothing in his story that was afoul-except in things he could not have known and surmised, or things he tried to explain to make the pieces fit. His intent to tell the truth was true, and the most important fact is that James Earl Ray did not kill MLK. The shot was fired from the back yard and not the bathroom on the 2nd floor. Jowers did not know that James Earl Ray was not in the rooming house when the shot was fired. He was a few blocks away at a service station.

Lloyd Jowers told his story to Sam Donaldson on Prime Time Live. He said he had been asked to help in the murder of King, and was told there would be a “decoy”, (Ray), in the plot. He was also told the police would not be there that night.

In that interview, the transcript of which was read to the jury in the Memphis courtroom, Jowers said the man who asked him to help in the murder was a Mafia-connected produce dealer named Frank Liberto. Liberto, now deceased, had a courier deliver $100,000 for Jowers to hold at his restaurant – the back door of which opened onto the dense bushes across from the Lorraine Motel. Jowers said he was visited the day before the murder by a man named Raul, who brought a rifle in a box.

As Mike Vinson reported in the March-April Probe, other witnesses testified to their knowledge of Liberto's involvement in King's slaying. Store-owner John McFerren said he arrived around 5:15 p.m., April 4, 1968, for a produce pick-up at Frank Liberto’s warehouse in Memphis. (“King” would be shot at 6:01 p.m.) When he approached the warehouse office, McFerren overheard Liberto on the phone inside saying, "Shoot the son-of-a-b*tch on the balcony."

Cafe-owner Lavada Addison, a friend of Liberto’s in the 1970s, testified that Liberto confessed: “I had Martin Luther King killed.” When he learned of this conversation, Addison’s son, Nathan Whitlock, said he inquired point-blank, “Did you murder Martin Luther King Jr.?”

[Liberto] replied, "I didn't kill the nigger but I had it done." Nathan said, "What about that other son-of-a-b*tch taking credit for it?" Liberto said, "Ahh, he wasn't nothing but a troublemaker from Missouri. He was a front man . . . a setup man."

The jury also heard a tape recording of a two-hour-long confession, Jowers, made at a fall 1998 meeting with Martin Luther King’s son Dexter and former UN Ambassador Andrew Young. On the tape, Jowers says: “Meetings to plan the assassination occurred at Jim’s Grill.” He alleged that the planners involved undercover MPD officer Marrell McCollough – who now works for the CIA and was called Merrell McCullough in the trial transcript – MPD Lieutenant Earl Clark – who died in 1987 – a third police officer, and two unknown men he suspected were federal agents.

Andrew Young – who witnessed the assassination – can be heard on the tape recognizing McCollough as the man lying beside King’s body on the balcony in an iconic photograph. According to witness Cobey Vernon Smith, McCollough had infiltrated a Memphis community group – the Invaders – that was working with the SCLC. In his trial testimony, Young said, “McCollough was the guy who ran up [the balcony stairs] with us to see Martin Luther King Jr.”

Jowers says on the tape: “Right after the shot was fired, I received a smoking rifle at the rear door of Jim’s Grill from Earl Clark.” He broke the rifle down into two pieces and wrapped it in a tablecloth. Raul picked it up the next day. Jowers said he didn't actually see who fired the shot that killed King, but thought it was Clark, the MPD's best marksman. In fact, I found that Earl Clark was there and involved in the MPD’s operation to orchestrate the murder, however, he did not fire the shot that killed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Those who continue to accuse him of the assassination: James Earl Ray, are either ignorant or part of a continuing conspiracy to assassinate and cover-up the assassinations of MLK, President John F. Kennedy, Senator/Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy, John Lennon, such as the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan.

With the 60th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy behind us: a renewed controversy over using the lone gunman assassination theory to dismiss all the evidence of the assassination resurfaces. The history of assassinations reveals that such acts are not the work of lone madmen, but of coordinated networks of skilled and ruthless operatives, who rely on elaborate schemes of deception and manipulation to conceal their crimes and evade justice. Only those who can pierce through the veil of lies and propaganda can discern the truth behind these political murders. These specific assassinations were operations requiring a number of experienced criminals and a durable cover-up, and they involved a monumental effort to continue the cover-up. The official explanation of a lone gunman acting alone is not supported by any conclusive facts or credible evidence in the JFK assassination case. There is not sufficient evidence to support the claim that James Earl Ray was the sole assassin of Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis on April 4, 1968. The official verdict that Ray acted alone in killing King at the Lorraine Motel in 1968 is entirely lacking in obvious realities. As an investigator for the 1979 House Select Committee on Assassinations, I uncovered numerous inconsistencies and contradictions in the official version that James Earl Ray killed Martin Luther King Jr. by himself, or even that he did it. All the facts thoroughly and completely support evidence for a case of collusion and conspiracy in the operation and cover-up that has continued. The disinformation campaign and the influence operation that have convinced many children and adults that James Earl Ray was the sole assassin of Martin Luther King Jr. are a tragic and blatant attempt to conceal the truth and protect the real perpetrators, who were involved with officials in the U.S. government, the mafia, and other groups. This false narrative has been propagated by official reports, media outlets, textbooks, and documentaries that have ignored or distorted the facts, evidence, and common sense that point to a different and true reality.

FINAL REPORT

The Investigation of the Assassination of
President John F. Kennedy
by Special Investigator Gary Revel
The Department of Justice, FBI, CIA, did not reveal to the Warren Commission information available in 1964, and the Secret Service was deficient in their protection of the President, as was their duty. Further, the Warren Commission did not purpose to find the truth of the entire matter of the assassination of the President of the United States of America, John F. Kennedy. The Warren Commission, instead, sought to affirm the statements and positions of FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover and then President Lyndon Baines Johnson.

Fact: Lee Harvey Oswald worked for the CIA, had a CIA 201 file, which is only set up for CIA employees, and Tosh Plumlee told me (William Robert (Tosh) Plumlee flew drugs and guns for the CIA.) he trained with Lee Harvey Oswald at the Nags Head, North Carolina Office of Naval Intelligence operations center. Plumlee's services as a CIA pilot included flying to Dallas on November 22, 1963 in a plan to stop the assassination of JFK, which they failed to do.

The FBI and the CIA were plagued with organizational failures, miscommunication, and a desire to keep certain parts of their operations secret. Furthermore, some members of the Warren Commission expected these agencies to be forthcoming with any information that would aid their investigation. Instead the FBI and the CIA only saw it as their duty to respond to specific requests for information from the commission. However, the FBI and the CIA were deficient, in performing even the limited role, in providing those things called for by those specific requests. Some of those with the Warren Commission would later deny they agreed that Oswald was the killer. One of those, Congressman Hale Boggs had done so and was expected to publicly made his opinion known. However he disappeared while on a campaign trip to Alaska. The airplane he was in disappeared and has not been founde. He and the other occupants of the plane have not been found either. This is just one of the many mysteries involving particpants and witnesses involved with the Warren Commission. Historicallly, many problems arise with the Warren Commission Report when investigated with the historical perspective we now have.

As the Special Investigator (Under Cover) of the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations I participated in the public release of the findings in 12 volumes and a single-volume summary report, still the majority of primary documents were sealed for 50 years under congressional rules. In 1992, Congress passed legislation to collect and open up all the evidence relating to Kennedy's death, and created the Assassination Records Review Board to further that goal. Materials that have been uncovered significantly change the conclusions that the HSCA reached in both the assassinations of JFK and MLK Jr.

The ARRB reported: "Because the HSCA investigation was marked by internal squabbling and disillusioned staffers, the Committee's records were the subject of ongoing controversy. Some ex-staffers claimed the HSCA report did not reflect their investigative work, and that information that did not conform with the Committee leadership's preconceived conclusions was ignored or left out of the report and supporting volumes."[

In 1992, author Bonar Menninger dismissed the committee report as Blakey's $5 Million Folly.

Robert Blakey, the Chief Counsel of the committee, later changed his views that the CIA was being cooperative and forthcoming with the investigation when he learned that the CIA's special liaison to the Committee researchers, George Joannides, was actually involved with some of the organizations that Lee Harvey Oswald was allegedly involved with in the months leading up to the assassination. Among these organizations was an anti-Castro group, the Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil, which was linked to the CIA (Joannides was in fact working for the CIA in 1963). Chief Counsel Blakey later stated that Joannides should have in fact been interviewed by the HCSA, rather than serving as a gatekeeper to the CIA's evidence and files regarding the assassination. He further disregarded and suspected all the CIA's statements and representations to the Committee, accusing it of obstruction of justice.

In the same 2003 interview, Blakey issued a statement on the Central Intelligence Agency. Here is an excerpt from that statement:

...I no longer believe that we were able to conduct an appropriate investigation of the [Central Intelligence] Agency and its relationship to Oswald.... We now know that the Agency withheld from the Warren Commission the CIA–Mafia plots to kill Castro. Had the commission known of the plots, it would have followed a different path in its investigation. The Agency unilaterally deprived the commission of a chance to obtain the full truth, which will now never be known. Significantly, the Warren Commission's conclusion that the agencies of the government co-operated with it is, in retrospect, not the truth. We also now know that the Agency set up a process that could only have been designed to frustrate the ability of the committee in 1976–79 to obtain any information that might adversely affect the Agency. Many have told me that the culture of the Agency is one of prevarication and dissimulation and that you cannot trust it or its people. Period. End of story. I am now in that camp.

According to a 2015 Politico report, newly declassified documents show that CIA director John A. McCone hid evidence from the Warren Commission. According to a once-secret report written in 2013 by the CIA's top in-house historian, David Robarge, the CIA admits McCone and other senior CIA officials withheld 'incendiary' information from the Warren Commission.

The fact is, Lee Harvey Oswald did not shoot and kill President John F. Kennedy.

It is important to remember that the United States Constitution guarantees every American of the right of 'due process' of law and in essence we are innocent of crimes until proven guilty. Lee Harvey Oswald is innocent. He has not been tried and convicted of the crime. All the evidence that cleared him of the crime would have been impossible for the prosecution to overcome in a fair trial. He was set up to take the fall and then executed to prevent the case from going to court.
