A Gary Revel Perspective

As I stand on the edge of time that seems to be an arrival of great change and life meaning such as hinted at in times before but not remarkably realized as yet, I am humbled.

My love for America will not die with me. My love for my fellow human being, where-ever and whoever they may be, will never fail regardless of the beat or non-beat of my heart. My love for the beauty and sometimes coarseness of words shall not pass away as they enlighten, encourage, bolster and sometimes discipline our lives. The sound of music, like the stars that shine in the night sky, could only diminish but for the comfort, warmth and brightness of the orchestrations in heaven itself.

As I stand on the edge of time that seems to be an arrival of great change and life meaning such as hinted at in times before but not remarkably realized as yet, I am humbled.

I write to you now with that humility knowing that you too will experience the great moving of life, love and emotional impact that are at the door of our new realities.

The thought occurred to me that, 'Should I die today what could I write, here and now, that would be of any benefit to those still living?' With that in mind I began this memo and will make the imperfect and human effort to address that question.

The greatest reward there is in this life is to be that good thing for another that they cannot be for themselves. Whatever it may be; whether a material need, comforting word or even a smile at a most particular and needful time. Food, water and nourishment for those who have been victims of misfortune can be material needs, just like physical comfort, clothing and shelter from the ravages of time and the storms of life. I won't pretend that such efforts will make you rich as most might think 'rich' is. I will tell you that such resolve will make you rich in ways that are eternal and satisfying beyond any selfish effort or even exhaustive plan of accomplishment aimed at pleasing oneself.

You might ask, 'What authority do you have to presume such an uncomfortable theme upon others?'

Well, I am 62 years of age and I have tested and tried much of what I offer. I have been fortunate enough to have experienced the folly and the wisdom of many of life's tests and traumas that come from the failures of some of those tests. I gather now that wisdom is simply living one's life today as if one knew what tomorrow would bring. To manipulate life as to an outcome tomorrow that one can by any means prepare for is not wisdom but rather folly. To live a well intended life and be expectant of, yet still surprised and comforted by tomorrow's results is to be wise.

So maybe that's the thing. Just to be good and have good intentions to continue that goodness to and for others. Simply put; when you hurt another person or deliberately or negligently cause one to be hurt, regardless of the reason or motive you may be convinced of, then you have not been good to them. That includes those times when one might hurt oneself. Be good to yourself and be good to others. When you do that, you make the time for all good things to come and make their presence known in your life and that is what truly satisfies us in this life and will continue to satisfy us in any hereafter.

This is the moment of realization that I have written to you that which I felt compelled to write. I take no pride nor self promotion from the moment only a feeling of satisfaction that it is done. It's not to be considered any kind of 'last writing' by any means for I have every intention to continue doing those things I believe I am here to do.
